Einer verirrt sich immer (Aina joku eksyy)

Synopsis

Aina joku eksyy (lit. “Someone Always Gets Lost”) is an absurd tragicomedy and an accurate snapshot of contemporary Finland. The play begins in 1958, concentrates on the early 1980s, and ends in 1998. It tells the story of a woman who finds herself in a hospital at the beginning of the play. She has lost her memory. With her are her children, whom she had abandoned and left to her husband, an army officer. They now listen to the confusing fragments that she remembers from her past. The family’s story is thus recounted, moving wildly back and forth in time. There are numerous references to sports in the play, particularly orienteering where, as in life, people frequently get lost. Lundán’s portrayal of these lost people is warm, understanding and loving. Aina joku eksyy was Finland’s candidate for the Nordic Drama prize in 2000. (Tinfo/Sunklo)
