Synopsis:

Before taking his own life, a middle-aged business man has sent out invitations to the five women that had been closest to him. They are to be the persons present at his funeral, held in a small chapel. The five women – his mother, his first wife, his surviving wife, his mistress and his nurse – are relative strangers to each other. In the first act, which takes place in the chapel, the dead is put to rest while the five women relate their personal stories about the deceased through free flowing monologues that occasionally merge into dialogue. For the second act, the chapel turns into a living room and the play takes a more stylistically realistic approach. Through the discussion between the five women, the man’s impact on the women’s current lives is explored, with a highly diversified and a somewhat surprising image of the dead man ultimately emerging.
